April 2021: managed to time our visit to David, Brie and Esme-ita, my grand-daughter in Washington D.C. just right for the peak cherry blossoms.  This photo around the Tidal Basin with 3,000 cherry trees donated by Japan in 1912.  Washington Monument sticking out of my head.
During our visit here in D.C. we WALKED 30 MILES!

April 2021: Cherry blossoms everywhere.  Jefferson Memorial behind us, over the Tidal Basin.  Absolutely spectacular.  The blossoms started fading the next day ... we got here just at the right time.  A fabulous time with my Esme-ita.

With Esme on the Mall, Washington Monument.  She is squirming ... "don't take a photo!"

During our visit, we started on a freezing cold day and each day it warmed up, but the cherry trees were losing their blooms, at one point it looked like a snowstorm.

On the Tidal Basin, next to Jefferson Memorial, trees still in fool bloom

The White House is completely barricaded, as is Lafayette Park.  This is from the St. John's church, where last summer Trump walked to raise the bible for the media.  The White House is way in the fenced-off distance.

Pennsylvania Avenue, totally empty, heading to the Capitol.  Washington totally empty. We have never seen it like this.  All museums closed.  No tourists anywhere. Really strange.

Old Post Office, now the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue.  No guests in sight.

Usually, there would be thousands or tens of thousands of tourists and hundreds of tour buses.  Not one this time.  Click for an even larger image.

The security fence constructed after January 6 and behind it, concrete barriers, protect the Capitol. Click for an even larger image.

Behind the security fence and barrier constructed after January 6, a hundred senators and several hundred congressmen are slugging it out over the next big expenditure.  From here it looks dead. We walked and walked and walked, 30 miles in our 4-1/2 days here.  What a splendid trip and whole bunch of dinners and visits with Esme.
