What do George
Washington and Zadock Pratt have in common ? PLENTY ! Both served their country -- one as President, the other as Congressman. Both acquired wealth and used it to benefit Americans. But there is more .... |
Pratt, as a boy, attended the funeral ceremonies for the first president
in February 1800. As as Congressman in 1844, Pratt made the resolution for grounds to be set aside for the Washington Monument and worked for Congressional support of the project. Colonel Zadock Pratt went from rags to riches. He was a leather-tanning
tycoon and managed the world's largest tannery -- right in Prattsville. A man of
boundless energy, he was twice elected to the U.S. Congress (1836 and 1842). |
|
Since 1976, the people of Prattsville have dedicated their energy and resources to preserving Pratt's home -- The Zadock Pratt Museum. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Museum is in the heart of the Catskill Mountains.
It takes money to maintain this Museum. Col. Pratt helped us memorialize our first President. Now, would you please help us preserve Col. Pratt's legacy ? We need your help ! Please become a member of the Zadock Pratt Museum, or make a tax-deductible donation.
